Reconcilation

Jesus said, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Matthew 16:19

“The whole power of the sacrament of Penance consists in restoring us to God’s grace and joining us with him in an intimate relationship.” Reconciliation with God is thus the purpose and effect of this sacrament. For those who receive the sacrament of Penance with contrite heart and religious disposition, reconciliation “is usually followed by peace and serenity of conscience with strong spiritual consolation.” Indeed the sacrament of Reconciliation with God brings about a true “spiritual resurrection,” restoration of the dignity and blessings of the life of the children of God, of which the most precious is friendship with God.”                                         Catechism of the Catholic Church #1468

The Sacrament of Reconciliation offers the opportunity for a Catholic person to receive forgiveness for sins they have committed and are reconciled with the Catholic Church. God’s forgiveness has been offered through Jesus Christ and extended to His Church by priests asking the forgiveness of God upon a Catholic person. Jesus Christ began this Sacrament of Healing for all sinful members of his Church.

Reconciliation is held at St. Vincent de Paul ever Saturday afternoon from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm.  There are also penance services conducted during the seasons of Lent and Advent usually on an evening during the week.
